Family Counseling

We are Committed to Family Mental Health

All of us operate in a system with others, and like ripples in a pond, when a rock is thrown in, it causes ripples throughout that system.

It takes but one person, one moment, one conviction, to start a ripple of change.

Donna Brazile

What does Family Counseling look like?

Family counseling looks at problems as patterns that need adjusting, rather than focusing on one person's sole role in the problem. It is different from individual counseling, as typically we like to see everyone together in sessions.

Family Therapy can help -

  • The entire family recover and heal
  • Members make specific, positive changes and work together as a healthy unit
  • Members can develop & Maintain healthy boundaries and respect
  • Facilitate healthy communication
  • Create problem-solving by understanding each other
  • Reduce conflict
  • Build empathy & understanding for each other

Child & Parent Psychotherapy

What is CPP?

Child & Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is therapy for young children from birth through age five and their parents/caregivers. It supports family strengths and relationships, helps families heal and grow after stressful experiences, and respects family and cultural values.

Would my child qualify?

For children, caregivers are the most important people in their lives. Parents know their children best, and are central to their development.

CPP is helpful for kids who have been through scary or painful events such as -

  • Separations from you or their main caregiver (divorce, foster care, deployments or incarcerations)
  • Abuse/violence in the home or in the community
  • Abuse or neglect
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Series medical procedures or hospitalizations
  • a change in placement or caregivers due to foster care or adoption

Many children with behavior problems, sometimes resulting from difficult experiences, could also be helped by CPP.

These types of stressful experiences can affect the caregiver-child relationship. When difficult things happen, young children need their parents to help them make sense of what their family went through, know what to expect in the future, and learn to cope with challenging emotions.
