Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@waccounseling.com if you cannot find an answer to your question. We are here to help!

If you have won a free session certificate, congratulations! Your session may be used for any of our services. This includes a counseling session, birth planning, postpartum planning, or a breastfeeding consultation at no charge. If you aren't sure what you want, we are happy to talk with you and help you decide. Even if you are not experiencing any symptoms, feel free to contact us! We can help you process any concerns about pregnancy, delivery, parenting, or any other issues that are important to you. Please fill out a "Contact Us" form through our website, and be sure to note that you have a free session.

We currently accept Medicaid (under 21 years old), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and United Health/Optum. The referral process depends on your carrier, so contact us and we will be happy to discuss the process with you.

Click the PDF link below for a list of potential providers that are authorized to refer for mental health services. You will need to make an appointment, and let them know you need an EPSDT referral for evaluation & treatment. We are happy to explain the process over the phone, and contact the provider you choose to help the process go faster.

Medicaid Approved Referral Providers

We accept cash or debit/credit card payments through a secure link. We send you the link prior to your first appointment if you are paying yourself and not using your insurance. Medicaid clients have no copays, otherwise it will depend on your insurance carrier.

There are options!

  • Go to our website at www.waccounseling.com, and fill out a contact form.
  • Follow us on our social media accounts (Facebook: WAC Counseling; Instagram: @waccounseling) for updates, information, and to rsvp for classes. We create events for classes to make the process easy.

You can fill out a contact form on our website, or text/call us on the numbers listed on the website.

Your first session with us will be an intake process, and is different than the rest of our time together. We gather information (as you are comfortable sharing) about the reason you are looking for counseling, your past experiences with mental health, your physical health & current medications, substance use history, family history, and educational history. We will explain the process and give you plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and sign papers that indicate you understand how therapy will work (how often we will meet, how to communicate with us, and about the therapeutic relationship). We work on the premise that you know yourself best. We work with you on developing goals for our time together, and discuss how we can help you get there. In the event you decide we are not the right counselors for you, we will offer referrals to other trusted therapists in our area.

Postpartum planning is as important, if not more, than planning for your childbirth. At a postpartum plan session we take you through thinking about how to streamline life as much as possible after your baby is born. We help you identify how others can help you, how you would like to handle guests, preparing food yourself or setting up a meal train, and examine your mental & physical health plans. Support looks different for everyone, so we tailor your plan to your unique needs. You will receive a digital and/or hardcopy of your postpartum plan to fill out or complete at home.

The time surrounding pregnancy, labor, & delivery is a time of physical and emotional change as you prepare for life with your new baby. Even if things are going well, a few sessions to discuss how things are going, process uncertainty or fears related to delivery and life with a newborn can set you up for success. We are equipped to help you make choices on the kind of birth you prefer, mental health maintenance/improvement, communication, and postpartum planning. We will provide accurate information, relevant resources, and educate about warning signs of new or worsening mental health problems specific to this time period.
