Adoptive & Birth Parents

Adopting a child, or choosing adoption as a birth parent, brings unique challenges in many areas of life. Child welfare experts have identified seven core issues in adoption that all members of the family (adoptive parents, birth parents, children or relatives) can experience. These are based on years of research and input from adoptive families.

The 'Seven Core Issues in Adoption & Permanency' can be experienced by all family members and include -

  • Loss
  • Rejection
  • Shame & Guilt
  • Grief
  • Identity Changes
  • Intimacy Changes
  • Mastery & Control issues

If you are a part of an adoption or foster care process, in any way, and need support, we understand. Please use these resources, and call us if you would like an appointment.

A child born to another woman calls me mom. The magnitude of that tragedy and the depth of that privilege are not lost on me.
