What is Perinatal Anxiety?

Perinatal anxiety is a type of anxiety that occurs during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth. It affects mood, energy levels, and overall well-being, impacting both the parent and their ability to care for their baby.

Experiencing anxiety, depression, or often both, impacts your emotional health and ability to care for yourself and your baby. Understanding the signs and seeking support early can lead to better outcomes for both mother and child.

Symptoms May Include

  • Persistent worry that you cannot control
  • Feeling restless or unable to rest
  • Sweating or hot flashes
  • Increased heart rate or breathing
  • Fearing the worst case scenario
  • Intense concern about your baby
  • Worrying something will happen to your partner

Diagnosis & Treatment

  • Diagnosis involves a mental health professional evaluating symptoms and their impact on daily life.
  • Treatment often includes therapy, medication, and support from healthcare providers.

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes and ensuring the well-being of both the parent and the baby. Seek help as soon as possible, as your emotional health can directly affect the health & development of your child. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms, seeking professional help can make a significant difference.
